It has been an honour to serve as the Chair of Homes for the North for the past two years, and it is a time in my career that I will look back on with immense pride.
Since taking on this role in 2022, it’s been clear to me that the North faces unique challenges in providing adequate housing, which is essential for the social and economic well-being of our communities. Our focus has been unwavering: to address this disparity and pave the way for a better future within the community we serve.
A significant milestone of my tenure has been the development of our ambitious plan for More and Better Homes in the North. This collaborative effort has yielded evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at catalysing urgent housing provision. Our plan, which has generated cross party support – emphasises strategic approaches, long-term rent and grant certainty, and essential planning reforms, all geared towards fostering sustainable growth and development.
As I transition from my role as Chair, I am thrilled to see Bronwen Rapley step into this role, whose remarkable dedication to housing and community welfare precedes her. With her expertise and leadership, I am confident that we will make significant strides towards achieving our vision of More and Better Homes.
